The Blenheim-Gilboa power plant is a Hydroelectric plant located in the Catskill Mountain range in New York State. The site is owned and operated by the New York State Power Authority. The power station is a main supplier to the New York City metropolitan area providing a substantial amount of electric power for the area. The plant depends on two very large water reservoirs to provide the force of water needed when pumping through the turbines that generate the power that is obtained. A process referred to as “cavitation work” was commonly performed on the turbines.  This maintenance required the welding and grinding of asbestos blankets.  Flange gaskets were also often replaced or repaired which routinely involved the disturbing of wrapped asbestos.

Anyone who has used or worked at the Blenheim-Gilboa power plant has been unknowingly placed at risk of asbestos exposure and mesothelioma. This includes anyone who maintained, repaired, and operated equipment at the plant facility. This also includes other laborers from outside contractors who may have been involved in work at the power plant.
