What is Pleural Mesothelioma?

Mesothelioma is cancer that is caused by exposure to asbestos fibers. People who were exposed to asbestos usually worked with insulation, worked as a plumber, worked in an industrial setting, a railway job, and many more job sites. It can take several decades for mesothelioma to develop following asbestos exposure.

When mesothelioma is referred to as “pleural” mesothelioma, that means that cancer has developed in the pleura, which is in the lining of the chest and lungs. It is the most common type of mesothelioma.

The name mesothelioma comes from the term mesothelium, which is the protective lining in your body between your organs. When this lining is affected by cancer, that cancer is called mesothelioma.

What Treatments are Available for Pleural Mesothelioma?

Current medicine does not have a known cure for mesothelioma. There are ways to treat it and manage symptoms.

Surgery could be an option for you. Parts of the lung can be removed to get rid of the diseased parts. Your lining can be removed during surgery as well if it is affected by cancer.

You can get chemotherapy or immunotherapy. Chemo aims to slow down or reduce the growth of your cancer. Immunotherapy aims to do the same.

To manage symptoms but not treat them, you can have a catheter placed to get rid of fluid buildup in your lungs. This can help with any respiratory symptoms. It will not slow down or shrink your cancer.

Because there is no cure for cancer, there is a lot of research still being done to search for therapies to help with symptoms and eventually hopefully find a cure. Clinical trials are an option for someone who would like to participate in new therapies. You can become a participant and receive treatment that is still in trial. A lot of them have helped patients.

Am I Entitled to Justice After Being Diagnosed with Pleural Mesothelioma?

If you have been diagnosed with mesothelioma, you likely wondered how this happened. When you have mesothelioma, it is almost always because of exposure to asbestos. This typically happened many years ago. Potentially this was decades ago.

Most of our clients were exposed at work. We have a comprehensive directory of workplaces in WNY where asbestos exposure was possible. If you worked at any of these job sites, you may have been exposed to asbestos.

If this is what causes your mesothelioma, you would absolutely be entitled to justice. It would be rewarded to you in the form of money damages. You can recover financial compensation for your medical expenses, lost earnings, pain, and suffering.

We would collect this award for you from the insurance company of the liable party.
