In this video, associate attorney Grace M. Gannon explains her role in guiding clients through the final steps of asbestos litigation. Grace shares how she ensures settlements are properly finalized, clearly communicates complex legal procedures, and provides compassionate support to clients and their families. You’ll learn about Grace’s commitment to making the legal process manageable and approachable, reflecting the firm’s dedication to achieving meaningful outcomes for asbestos victims and their loved ones.

My name is Grace Gannon, and I’m an associate attorney at Lipsitz, Ponterio & Comerford. I focus primarily on asbestos litigation. One of the partners here affectionately refers to me as “The Closer” because I handle many of the final steps involved in resolving our asbestos cases.

Once we’ve secured settlements from the companies responsible for causing our clients’ cancer, I take over to manage the resolution process. This includes negotiating settlement documents, determining whether medical insurers must be reimbursed, and obtaining court approval if required. Each of these steps is mandated by the legal system in order to ensure that payments are distributed properly to our clients or their loved ones.

Throughout this process, I remain in close contact with the client, making sure to explain everything in plain, understandable language. I’m always available to answer questions and guide clients through the final steps needed to receive the compensation they deserve.

I take great pride in working with our clients, many of whom, like me, come from working-class backgrounds. I keep a photo of a fireboat in my office to remind me of my grandfather, a firefighter who worked on that very boat. We represent people like him—the workers, laborers, and parents of my childhood classmates—many of whom worked in the local steel mills just miles from my home.

I frequently receive calls from clients or their spouses who ask for help in understanding complex legal matters in simple terms. I remember one worker from Rochester who asked me, “If I were your father, what would you recommend?” That kind of trust is humbling. It’s a privilege to serve clients who rely on us to guide them through some of the most difficult moments in their lives.

I often tell my friends, family, and colleagues that it’s an honor to represent asbestos cancer victims—individuals who were simply doing their jobs, unaware of the toxic asbestos exposure they were facing. At Lipsitz, Ponterio & Comerford, we’re committed to standing by these workers and their families every step of the way.

My goal is always to make the legal process feel manageable, not overwhelming. Even on the busiest days, I look forward to client calls—sometimes just to check in on the status of their case or a pending payment. We often take a moment to catch up and talk about their grandchildren or upcoming trips. It’s in these small, human moments that I’m reminded how meaningful this work is. I’m grateful every day for the opportunity to represent these families and help them achieve a recovery that can bring some relief and support for their future.
